Description
What first drew my eye to this lovely vase was the amount of orange swirl it has against the natural clay color. The combination had a more organic sense - like I might see that together in nature. I know this vase is at least 50 years old - mid 1960s, or there about. This vase was mold-formed, not thrown. Nevertheless, it doesn’t have that commercially created feel. I do know the pottery was made in Minnesota and sold for many years in the desert states in the U.S. Stamped in ink on base BEMADJI POTTERY USA.I believe Memadji Pottery is still in business. But, I think the quality has suffered. Back in the old days (starting in 1922) when it was started by a Dutchman in Minnesota, the community probably created the pottery. Even up to the 1960s, it was still probably made by Minnesotans. Pottery experts sometimes talk down this pottery. They say it’s plentiful. Well, I beg to differ. Plus, this history is gone. So much is not even made in the U.S. anymore.
