    Description

    MOVING, MUST SELL
Up for auction is this Reuter Organ Company 4' Flamed Copper Principal pipe.   Used as a selling tool, this speaking pipe (8'  tenor C) has its own oak rack to hold it upright and the pipe actually plays.   There is no tuning collar on the pipe, so the pitch of the pipe (tenor C) is a close approximation of the actual pitch.  The copper metal is cut out in the Reuter shop, flamed with both acid and a torch, rounded on mandrels and soldered/TIG welded, and then voiced to speak.  The ears on the pipe and the mottled or spotted parts around the mouth of the pipe are an alloy of tin and lead (spotted/organ metal).   This softer alloy is used so all the parts around the mouth can be adjusted for the proper tonal quality.   Quite a few Reuters have either flamed or polished copper pipes as facade pipes and they make a stunning display in the church.  This pipe was used to show organ committees what a flamed facade of pipes might look like in the church.  Pictures  #11 and 12 show existing Reuter Organs in church with facades of  flamed copper principals on either side of the chancel and in an older organ casework.
Pipe and stand are 4' 10" tall and the stand is 14" x 8"
